The Caledonia North Supervisory Union (CNSU), serving the school districts of Burke, East Haven, Lyndon, Miller’s Run Unified District #37 (Sheffield and Wheelock), Newark and Sutton, announced the SU has hit a second impasse with the teachers’ union this week.
In a news release sent by Celeste Girrell, chair of the CNSU executive board, on behalf of the SU, the impasse was announced, “It is with great regret that the Caledonia North Supervisory Union (CNSU) negotiation team reports that the Caledonia North Education Association (CNEA) union negotiators declared a second impasse on Thursday, May 21, 2015, during collaborative bargaining.”
“It has been the intention of CNSU representatives to work with the union in negotiating a contract that is equitable for teachers and sustainable for the taxpayers,” the SU’s statement said.
It continued, “As a result, teachers will continue to work under the current contract until an agreement is reached. Next steps include mediation and fact-finding. CNSU is hopeful to come to resolution in a timely fashion. Our goal is to keep education spending sustainable.”
Efforts to obtain a comment from the local teachers’ union were unsuccessful Friday.
